QuietKat Apex Spec Review – 2024

September 20, 2022 By Michael Clark Leave a Comment

QuietKat Apex Review 2024

Overall Rating: 4.4/5

Pros:

  • Choice of either a 750W or 1000W motor
  • Comes in three sizes, and should fit riders from 5 feet 6 inches to 6 feet 2 inches
  • Choice of one, two or three-year extended service plans
  • Very powerful 4-piston Tektro hydraulic disc brakes
  • Excellent accessory packages for sportsmen

Cons:

  • The small size is still a fairly large e-bike and unlikely to fit riders less than 5 feet 6 inches
  • Kickstands tend to rattle when riding offroad

QuietKat Apex Review: Intro

The QuietKat Apex is a different sort of e-bike. In a sea of commuters, cruisers, folding e-bikes and more, this e-bike is meant for taking the road less traveled. Some of those roads won’t even be paved.

While many riders see an e-bike as a great way to commute to work and run errands, the QuietKat Apex is an e-bike meant to go places few e-bikes can reach. Aimed squarely at sportsmen who go into the woods in search of game and fish, the QuietKat Apex can reach places no truck can go. With the addition of specialized racks or a trailer, the rider can bring along the tools of their trade and at the end of the day make their way out of the backwoods with their trophy, or dinner.

In our QuietKat Apex review we will take a look at the details that make this e-bike so different. From the 750W mid-drive motor to the ultra-powerful Tektro hydraulic disc brakes and the 9-speed drivetrain, not to mention the 150mm-travel suspension fork, this is no ordinary e-bike, and it is priced like it, too.

For anyone who has dreamt of an e-bike to take them places too wild for a quad, the QuietKat Apex is worth a deeper look.

In-Depth QuietKat Apex Review

QuietKat Apex Review: Comfort, Handling, and Ride Qualities

The QuietKat Apex is an all-terrain e-bike, meant to go into the backcountry. Comfort isn’t exactly the first concern of riders who leave the paved road. Capability and control tend to be bigger priorities. The QuietKat Apex is ideal for delivering sportsmen to fishing holes and hunting blinds, but also terrific for simply exploring out-of-the-way places.

Thanks to 26 x 4.5-in. Kenda Juggernaut tires, and a 150mm-travel suspension fork, the Apex is reasonably comfortable even when on rough terrain. These choices are meant to make the bike easier to control when things get bumpy, but being in control of a bike definitely helps comfort. Worth noting is that the size small Apex uses 24-in. wheels, making the bike easier for smaller riders to manage.

The QuietKat Apex is a 70-lb. e-bike and that will affect the handling. All-terrain bikes like the QuietKat Apex are meant to be calm at higher speeds and more maneuverable at low speed, which this should offer.

For the sportsman looking to pull a trailer, the QuietKat Apex has the handling necessary to pull a trailer on unpaved roads.

QuietKat Apex Review: Motor, Battery, and Drivetrain Performance

The QuietKat Apex is one very powerful e-bike. E-bikes that use mid-drive motors don’t really need an especially powerful motor because they add power before the drivetrain and the gears multiply the effect of the motor. An e-bike with a 750W mid-drive motor is very powerful indeed. It’s climbing ability will be memorable.

QuietKat offers an optional 1000W motor that does not conform to any of the three classes of e-bike. This is the sort of performance that would allow a hunter to pull a six-point buck out of the forest on a trailer.

QuietKat estimates the Apex will cover between 24 and 48 miles per charge; this depends on rider weight and terrain, but it is respectable given the power of the motor.

An e-bike with this much power needs a drivetrain that can handle it. The SRAM 9-speed drivetrain is a step up from the 8-speed drivetrains normally seen in this price range. The wider range of the gears and the superior materials will make it reliable when far from home.

QuietKat Apex Review: Braking, Safety, Customer Service & Warranty

Again, this is an unusually powerful e-bike, and that’s true even without upgrading to the 1000W motor. More power can mean more speed or it can mean a greater capacity to haul a load. Either way, stopping such a bike requires a bit more oomph, and in this case, that oomph is provided by Tektro 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes. Normal hydraulic disc brakes will have two pistons—one left and one right—but these provide two pistons right and two pistons left in order to push brake pads that are larger than standard brake pads.

The presence of the Tektro discs shows how much care QuietKat has put into designing the Apex. Nothing can attest to the safety considerations of this bike like those Tektro brakes.

We have no real information about QuietKat’s customer service or how responsive they are, but the extended service plans are a very helpful option for a bike that is intended to be used in place that can be unpredictable.

In reviewing the online reviews for the QuietKat Apex, most riders are very satisfied with their QuietKat Apex, but a few have encountered problems and in one case a rider criticized the Apex rather unfairly due to a lack of understanding about bike design. Overall, buyers seem very pleased.

The warranty is in keeping with what we see from bike shop brands—lifetime on the frame and one year (or 1000 mi.) on all parts and labor. It’s a solid warranty, but the extended service plans all but eliminate the need for a warranty.

QuietKat Apex Review: Recommendation/Final Verdict

QuietKat Apex Review 2024

This is a premium product and it is priced like it. Anyone who questions the wisdom of spending $5000 or more on an e-bike will want to consider a different e-bike. And for many riders, the spend won’t end with just the purchase of the QuietKat Apex. QuietKat offers accessory packages for sportsmen tailored to their pursuit. And let’s not forget those extended service plans, which are a smart buy indeed.

The QuietKat Apex is a beast of a bike. The amount of power it can unleash should make even the steepest truck trails a cinch. For sportsmen who wish to go where the game or fish are, this e-bike will serve as a superior way to get around to any other option because of how quiet and maneuverable it is. Unlike with a truck or a quad, it runs almost silently, so it is unlikely to scare off the quarry.

We differentiate between all-terrain e-bikes and eMTBs because a true e-mountain bike will have a wider-ranging drivetrain with more gears and suspension that is intended to handle drops of several feet, or more. The QuietKat Apex is definitely meant for backcountry riding, but this isn’t designed with aggressive singletrack riding in mind.

Fishing holes and hunting blinds too remote to drive to and too long a hike to be practical can become routine locations with an e-bike like the QuietKat Apex. Don’t want to camp out multiple nights? Ride in in the morning, have a full day and then pedal out before dark.

The promise of cycling has always been to go to new places to see locales in a way that can’t be done by other means. The QuietKat Apex will take riders to places that were only spots on a map before.

Unlike a great many direct-to-consumer e-bikes, QuietKat has authorized dealers in many cities; it’s possible to see one up close before committing to a purchase.

The QuietKat Apex is a specialized bike meant to cater to the needs of a very particular user. It will allow the rider a new dimension of freedom as they pursue their favorite pastime.
