Juiced RipRacer Review, 2024

September 5, 2023 By Michael Clark Leave a Comment

Summary Juiced RipRacer Electric Bike

Overall Rating:

4.4
Check Latest PriceJuiced RipRacer Electric Bike

Pros

  • With 20-in. wheels, a 52V, 750W motor producing 80Nm of torque, the RipRacer accelerates like a muscle car
  • Thanks to a very short wheelbase, the handling is super quick; it could navigate clothing racks in a department store
  • 4-in.-wide tires offer a cushy ride and terrific traction, even in the dirt
  • Hydraulic disc brakes front and rear with 180mm rotors offer excellent stopping power
  • Twist throttle makes for easier speed control

Cons

  • With such a short wheelbase, toe overlap can be an issue; riders need to be careful just how they place their feet on the pedals; centering the ball of the foot over the pedal is the call
  • With just one gear, it’s hard to do much riding without using the throttle
Juiced RipRacer Review 2023

Intro Compact e-bikes are the newest flavor to be added to the e-bike world. These are e-bikes that tend to be smaller, more nimble, and offer a more thrilling ride than a standard e-bike. These are the Mini-Coopers of the e-bike world. In our review of the Juiced RipRacer we will take a look at […]

Specialized Turbo Como 3.0 IGH Review, 2024

August 3, 2023 By Michael Clark Leave a Comment

Summary Specialized Turbo Como 3.0 IGH Electric Bike

Overall Rating:

4.9
Check Latest PriceSpecialized Turbo Como 3.0 IGH Electric Bike

Pros

  • 250W mid-drive Brose motor produces 50Nm and gives this e-bike impressive acceleration and Class 3 cruising speeds
  • At just 47 lbs., this is an unusually light commuter, which contributes to how good the handling is and how easy it is to manage when parking it
  • It comes in three sizes, making it one of the better e-bikes we have reviewed for especially tall or small riders
  • Specialized’s Mission Control smartphone app offers unique security features like GPS tracking and the ability to disable the motor, rendering the e-bike unrideable
  • The Enviolo internally geared hub offers a wide range of gear ratios and tiny steps between gears
  • With a 530Wh battery, this e-bike can cover more than 60 mi. on a single charge

Cons

  • People who want a throttle will be out of luck
  • Not an e-bike for taking off-road

Intro Of the big legacy bike brands, Specialized was the first to begin offering an e-bike here in the U.S. That gave them a head start in figuring out what consumers wanted and has kept them one step ahead of their competition at almost every turn. The Specialized Turbo Como 3.0 IGH is a up-market […]

Troxus Lynx E-Bike Review, 2024

August 3, 2023 By Michael Clark Leave a Comment

Summary Troxus Lynx Electric Bike

Overall Rating:

4
Check Latest PriceTroxus Lynx Electric Bike

Pros

  • 750W brushless, geared Bafang hub motor produces 80Nm of torque, giving this e-bike impressive acceleration and terrific climbing ability
  • 960Wh Samsung battery means that riders can go exploring and be out for hours without fear of running out of charge
  • The LCD display is large and easy to read while on the move and displays enough information that the rider doesn’t have to scroll through multiple functions to find their current speed or battery level
  • Suspension fork softens the ride and improves control no matter what the riding conditions
  • 4-in.-wide Kenda tires make for one of the most comfortable e-bikes with 20-in. wheels that we’ve encountered

Cons

  • While we like the 7-speed Shimano Altus drivetrain, reaching Class 3 cruising speeds could be difficult with the gearing selected. Someone will need to pedal pretty quickly to hit top speed
  • Not especially suited to bigger riders due to a 275-lb. weight limit

Intro Troxus is an e-bike brand that is relatively new to us. Like other direct-to-consumer brands, their focus is on the value-end of the market, with e-bikes starting a bit more than $1000 up to a bit more than $2000. The Lynx is one of two models featuring a step-through frame, as well as one […]

Troxus Explorer E-Bike Review, 2024

August 3, 2023 By Michael Clark Leave a Comment

Summary Troxus Explorer Electric Bike

Overall Rating:

4
Check Latest PriceTroxus Explorer Electric Bike

Pros

  • 750W brushless, geared Bafang hub motor produces 80Nm of torque and is well-suited to riding off-road and at Class 3 cruising speeds, making it a versatile e-bike
  • 960Wh Samsung battery provides range enough for hours of riding offroad
  • 8-speed Shimano drivetrain provides a wide range of gears for getting up hills and cruising as fast as 28 mph
  • The LCD display is big enough to read when bouncing around on an unpaved surface
  • The combination of 4-in.-wide Kenda tires and suspension fork make for a very comfortable ride

Cons

  • Weighs 91 lbs.
  • We love that the Explorer comes in both a traditional frame and a step-thru frame, but wish Troxus would make the seat tube and reach different sizes to accommodate people of a wider range of heights

Intro When people ask us what they should buy for their first e-bike, we often point them to all-terrain e-bikes like the Troxus Explorer. It’s not uncommon for shoppers to want an e-bike that will allow them to do some exploring, run some errands and commute to work on nice days. In our Troxus Explorer […]

NIU BQi-C3 Pro Review, 2024

August 3, 2023 By Michael Clark Leave a Comment

Summary NIU BQi-C3 Pro Electric Bike

Overall Rating:

4.1
Check Latest PriceNIU BQi-C3 Pro Electric Bike

Pros

  • Comes standard with two batteries for a total charge capacity of 920Wh, making this ideal for riders who want to go for longer rides or may not be able to charge it every day
  • Using a Gates Belt instead of a chain eliminates the need to lubricate it, makes it run more quietly and won’t leave black smudges behind if it touches something
  • Includes a large, color TFT LCD display mounted at the stem, making it easy to see on the move, and it includes dual battery charge readouts
  • With a standover height of just 12.6 in., it is ideal for riders with range-of-motion or flexibility issues who may have trouble mounting other e-bikes
  • They include all the tools necessary to assemble the e-bike

Cons

  • Having only one gear will make it very difficult for a rider to reach 20 mph, let alone go a Class 3 top speed of 28 mph
  • We’d rather see the extended warranty offer better coverage on the parts upgraded than a longer warranty on the batteries and motor; problems with those tend to show up rather quickly

Intro Range anxiety affects e-bike riders just as much as it affects people driving electric cars. Fortunately, should someone on an e-bike overextend a ride and run out of battery, they can still pedal home under their own steam, so-to-speak. The NIU BQi-C3 takes a novel approach to range by coming standard with two batteries. […]

HeyBike Brawn E-Bike Review, 2024

August 3, 2023 By Michael Clark Leave a Comment

Summary HeyBike Brawn Electric Bike

Overall Rating:

3.9
Check Latest PriceHeyBike Brawn Electric Bike

Pros

  • 750W brushless, geared hub motor delivers great acceleration up to Class 3 cruising speed and the muscle to get over big hills
  • 864Wh battery can give riders up to 65 mi. of riding on a single charge
  • Comes with a dropper post to make steep descents easier as well as allow for quicker changes in saddle height for different riders
  • Can carry a payload of up to 400 lbs., making it more able than most e-bikes to carry bigger riders
  • Uses a dual-crown fork for greater precision in handling and more travel than most suspension forks offer
  • HeyBike offers their own app for iPhones to map rides, track the e-bike’s location and more

Cons

  • Comes in just one size and is unlikely to fit anyone smaller than 5 feet 8 inches
  • Includes two different controllers on the handlebar, one for the horn and the light and the other for controlling the PAS levels and scrolling through the display

Intro All-terrain e-bikes are arguably the most popular style of e-bike being produced today, given how many companies produce them, as well as the fact that there are companies that produce nothing but all-terrain e-bikes. As we will see in our HeyBike Brawn review, there are reasons why this style of e-bike has become so […]

Rad Power Bikes RadTrike Review, 2024

August 3, 2023 By Michael Clark Leave a Comment

Summary Rad Power Bikes RadTrike Electric Bike

Overall Rating:

4.3
Check Latest PriceRad Power Bikes RadTrike Electric Bike

Pros

  • Unusually stable, thanks in part to 18-in. wheels which help keep the center of gravity low
  • Front wheel drive eliminates the need for a heavy differential and improves handling
  • Can be transported in many vehicles thanks to folding handlebar and removable saddle
  • Has reverse mode so that riders can back up
  • Maximum assist speed is 14 mph, which some riders might not like, but is an excellent safety function to prevent turning too quickly
  • Backrest offers terrific support to riders who may have back or neck issues

Cons

  • 18-in. wheels are an uncommon size; we would recommend ordering a couple of spare tires and tubes from Rad Power when ordering the RadTrike
  • 33-in. overall width is narrow enough for some doors, but not all

Intro If ever there was a way of moving people that deserved the addition of an electric motor, surely the adult tricycle must be it. They can be heavy, inefficient mechanically and are as aerodynamically sound as a fence. But there are dozens of reasons why they are awesome and Rad Power Bikes has joined […]

Lectric XP 3.0 Vs Lectric XP Lite

August 3, 2023 By Michael Clark Leave a Comment

Intro If it seems odd to pit two of the most popular e-bikes against each other when they come from the same company, don’t be alarmed. We’re here to ask an important question. Let’s say you’re on a budget so tight you’re not even sure you can afford an e-bike more expensive than the $799 […]

Globe Haul ST Vs. Rad Power Bikes RadRunner 3 Plus

August 3, 2023 By Michael Clark Leave a Comment

Globe Haul

Intro Looking at the number of new cargo e-bikes released this year, 2024’s most popular e-bikes are likely to be those models meant to carry more than one person. What constitutes “more” can mean anything from a kid or two (or three!), to a week’s-worth of groceries. They are the ideal answer to how to […]

Ride1UP 700 Vs Ride1UP LMT’D

August 3, 2023 By Michael Clark Leave a Comment

Intro Ride1UP has earned a reputation for producing above-average e-bikes at below-average price points. Neat trick. Their e-bikes tend to see premium components like air-spring suspension forks, hydraulic disc brakes and 8-speed drivetrains. While the look of the 700 Series and the LMT’D is noticeably different, they share some core features that help distinguish them […]
